ShopIQ can be deployed in any number of ways to suit the
requirements of a business.
The following diagrams compare three possible deployments
models including two web-based models. It is important to
note that these deployment scenarios are just some of the
many possible variations. The choice of deployment model
would be based on business requirements and infrastructure.
The three common scenarios for deploying the solution are:
Local deployment
Web based deployment with local print processing
Web-based deployment with distributed print processing
Local deployment
With a standard local deployment, some ShopIQ components are installed on local PC’s and files are stored either locally or on a remote file server. Users launch the ShopIQ software to perform functions such as creating, and editing signs and labels, and importing data from local and remote data sources. Items are rendered using a component known as Print Agent (installed locally) and outputted on local or shared print devices. In this scenario, although software is installed locally, files such as media collections and templates can be housed and managed either locally or remotely.
Note: ShopIQ software can be installed
on local machines in a store via an automated Web install
and update service.
Web based deployment with local print processing
With a web-based deployment model in which local print processing
occurs, no ShopIQ specific software is installed on local
PC’s. Instead, the components are installed on a central
application server and accessed remotely via a web browser
(Internet Explorer only). Local users therefore only need
a web browser to perform functions such as creating and
editing signs and labels and importing data from external
sources. In this scenario, a browser plug-in that is automatically
downloaded performs the local real-time print processing.
The advantage of this scenario is that because documents
are rendered at the time of printing, no rendered documents
are being transferred across the network and communications
bandwidth requirement is very low.
Web-based deployment with distributed print processing
With a web-based deployment model in which distributed processing occurs, ShopIQ software is installed on a central application server. Local users access the software wirelessly using any browser compatible device (including PDA's) to retrieve, select, edit and create media items on the move. At the moment of print, signs, labels and other items are sent from the application server to a local or remote print server and rendered to a local printer.
